What is Strength + Conditioning?

S&C is not personal training. It is a professional modality focused on improving physical performance; reducing injury risk; developing strength, power, speed, endurance and capacity whilst preparing the body for sport, work or life demands.

Proper S&C is Planned, Periodised, Tested, Individualised

No random workouts, no generic circuits.


S&C vs Personal Training

While both involve exercise, the intent and structure are very different.
*Please note, this is not an attack on personal training and does not speak for all PTs, as there are many outstanding personal trainers, especially in the Shire!


Typically PT focuses on general fitness, weight loss/muscle gain and motivation and accountability.


Strength and conditioning focuses on performance outcomes, injury resilience, load management, athletic development, long term progression and sports specific training.

Testing and Assessment

Every athlete or client begins with objective performance testing and is re-tested before each block. Testing may include:

  • Strength and power output

  • Force and asymmetry profiling

  • Capacity and endurance measure

  • Movement quality screening

  • Return to sport readiness

This allows us to:

  • Identify specific weakness and imbalances

  • Track progress objectively

  • Adjust programs intelligently

  • Reduce injury risk

  • Prove in real time whether a program is working or not

Training without testing is guessing. We don’t guess. And we incorporate the industry gold standard, VALD Performance equipment, into all decisions.

Individualised Training

No two people are the same – so no two programs should be.

Each program is tailored based on:

  • Your goals

  • Your sport/activity

  • Injury history

  • Current capacity

  • Test results

  • Training age.

Programs are structured in blocks, each one serving a clear purpose – not random sessions thrown together week to week.
