Sports Injuries
Injury management built for the demands of sport
At Shire Spine & Sport, sports injury management is about far more than settling pain. We specialise in assessing, treating and rehabilitating sports injuries with a clear focus on returning athletes to levels above what they were preinjury.
Our team works with athletes from recreational to elite levels, applying the same principles used in high-performance sporting environments.
Why sports injuries need a different approach?
Sports injuries aren’t the same as every day aches and pains.
Athletes place higher loads, higher speeds and greater demands on their bodies – and returning to sport requires more than rest or passive treatment. Proper sports injury care must account for:
Sport-specific demand
Training and competition schedules
Load tolerance and tissue capacity
Movement quality under fatigue
Psychological readiness to return
Treating pain alone isn’t enough. The body must be able to tolerate sport again.
Experience in high level sport
All practitioners at Shire Spine & Sport have extensive experience working in high level sporting environments. Our team has also worked privately, one on one, with professional athletes across multiple sports. This has given us unique experience that shapes every decision we make.
Our approach to sports injuries
Every case follows a clear process:
Comprehensive assessment
Accurate diagnosis and load analysis
Early symptom management
Progressive rehabilitation
Performance based Return to Sport
During this process you will learn and come to understand why the injury occurred, contributing factors and how to minimise the risk of recurrence.
Proper rehabilitation gym (not just treatment rooms)
Successful sports injury rehab requires progressive loading, not just hands on care.
Our facility includes a fully equipped rehab and performance gym that allows us to properly guide the athlete through the process from start to finish.
Rehab doesn’t end when pain settles. It ends when the athlete is physically prepared to return to sport.
Common sports injuries
We regularly manage injuries including:
Low back and spinal injuries
Hip and groins injuries
Hamstring, quad, calf strains
Shoulder injuries
Knee injuries

Return to sport
Returning to sport too early, or without adequate preparation, is one of the biggest causes of re-injury.
Our return to sport process focuses on:
Objective testing
Progressive exposure to load
Sport-specific movement patterns
Confidence and readiness
